The BJP taxi insurance scheme has been in operation for over 30 years. We have experienced both the good times and the bad times in the taxi insurance industry.
We sat down with the taxi insurance team to see what advice they would give to somebody out shopping around for taxi insurance for the first time. They also helped us answer some of the most common questions they get asked on a daily basis.
Can I use my taxi for social domestic and pleasure use?
Yes! However, you will need to make sure that you have social domestic and pleasure (SD&P) use included in your taxi insurance policy. The majority of taxi insurance policies will have an element of social use included. It is important to check as limitations vary between taxi insurance providers.
Can my spouse/partner drive my taxi?
Typically there is no problem having a spouse/partner added to the policy. This needs to be arranged with your taxi insurance provider directly. It’s important to note that they will only be allowed to drive the car for SD&P purposes only.
How do I earn a taxi no claims bonus?
If you are not involved in any claims for a full year, you will earn a no claims bonus discount. Each year you do not make a claim your discount will increase. For new taxi drivers, you can use a private car no claims bonus for the first time on your insurance.
Does it matter which insurance company I have my taxi insurance with?
It is very important to trust the insurance company you have your taxi insurance with. As with all types of insurance, a cheap deal doesn’t always work out as good value in the long run. If you need to make a claim and find you can’t because of a detail in the small print, you could find yourself seriously out of pocket.
